Children's charity SOS-Kinderdorf wins $1 million award

The global children’s charity SOS-Kinderdorf International has won the 2002 Hilton Humanitarian Prize.

The charity, whose UK headquarters are in Cambridge, was nominated by Sarah, Duchess of York. The prize of $1 million will be used to help the escalating number of children orphaned by AIDS in southern Africa.

The Hilton Humanitarian Prize will be formally awarded at a ceremony in New York on Monday 14 October as part of the Hilton Humanitarian Conference on “Social Justice; Bridging the Global Gap Between Rich and Poor”.
