Children's charity SOS-Kinderdorf wins $1 million award
The global children’s charity SOS-Kinderdorf International has won the 2002 Hilton Humanitarian Prize.
The charity, whose UK headquarters are in Cambridge, was nominated by Sarah, Duchess of York. The prize of $1 million will be used to help the escalating number of children orphaned by AIDS in southern Africa.
The Hilton Humanitarian Prize will be formally awarded at a ceremony in New York on Monday 14 October as part of the Hilton Humanitarian Conference on “Social Justice; Bridging the Global Gap Between Rich and Poor”.

UK charities are also eligible for the annual prize. The deadline for charities to apply for the 2003 Hilton
Humanitarian Prize is Friday 1 November 2002.
