Chancellor promises extra £75m to arts

Chancellor Gordon Brown has promised an extra £75m a year to the arts by 2005/06.

The promise came in the government’s comprehensive spending review, and the 16% increase should unleash an “avalanche of art” according to Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell.
