The Charity Commission reports that between January and March this year 2,571 organisations applied for charitable status. Of these, 1,332 were accepted on to the Register of Charities.

The Charity Commission reports that between January and March this year 2,571 organisations applied for charitable status. Of these, 1,332 were accepted on to the Register of Charities.

Since 1,321 charities were removed from the Register during this quarter, “largely because they had ceased to exist” say the Commission, the total number of charities on the Register at the end of March has remained static at 185,231.
