James E. Austin, chair of the Initiative on Social Enterprise and the McLean Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School, offers some statistics on online giving in the USA in the Chronicle of Philanthropy. “In 1999,” he writes, “according to estimates by the Initiative on Social Enterprise, about 4 percent of donors contributed
