The Indian community in the UK has raised £6m for victims of the Gujerat earthquake. This is almost as much as the official Disasters Emergency Committee whose total stands at £8.2 million.

Money has been raised by teams of teenagers collecting on the streets, through approaches to wealthy Asian professionals, and through temples. British-Indian charity Sewa International alone has raised £2.5 million for the earthquake fund.
