Columnist sparks viral e-mail for Planned Parenthood Federation

Howard Lake | 9 February 2001 | News

A Los Angeles newspaper columnist has unintentionally started a successful viral e-mail campaign for the Planned Parenthood Federation.

It started as an amusing joke. Los Angeles newspaper columnist Patt Morrison told readers she was going to celebrate President’s Day by making a donation to the Planned Parenthood Federation in the name of George W Bush, not known for his pro-choice views.

The joke was then passed by readers to other contacts via e-mail. The resultant viral e-mail helped generate $300,000 for the non-profit.
