Increased government funding to US religious groups

In the UK both Gordon Brown MP and William Hague MP have spoken of their desire to incorporate the skills and capacity of voluntary faith-based organisations in the development of the voluntary sector. In the USA President Bush is now putting government money behind this idea. He has established a new office to distribute government grants to religious groups and charities.

In doing so, he has been criticised by some organisations for blurring the traditional distinction between church and state in the USA, particularly with regard to government funding.
