Samaritans anticipate flood of e-mails
The Samaritans were one of the first UK charities to integrate the Internet not with their fundraising but with their service provision, offering e-mail counselling back in 1994. By last year the charity was receiving 100 e-mail requests a week. Indeed, the Samaritans receive more e-mail than telephone messages from people feeling suicidal. The New Year, often a depressing time for many people, is expected to yield a flood of e-mails to the charity.
