Five thousand new charities are created each year. However, according to an ICM poll for the Media Trust, 70% of the public think there are too many similar charities competing with each other.

Five thousand new charities are created each year. However, according to an ICM poll for the Media Trust, 70% of the public think there are too many similar charities competing with each other.

The Charity Commission now approves only 65% of applications, down from 90% a few years ago. Yet still 95% of charities in England and Wales are too small to employ paid staff, and half of all charities have annual incomes of less than £1,900.
