Greenpeace UK promote GM campaign online

Howard Lake | 27 October 2000 | News

Greenpeace UK have launched a new Web site that offers an online shoppers guide to GM products. They are using a range of online and offline marketing approaches, including “viral marketing,” negotiating links from other sites, online and offline editorial coverage, and of course e-mailing supporters. So far, a quarter of the sites contacted for reciprocal links have agreed. These include sites selling organic produce to publications such as The Ecologist and New Internationalist. Time Out have agreed to run an article on their site. Several organisations and individuals have posted the campaign information on Newsgroups or included it in their mailing list. The promotion has had a marked effect: traffic to the site has increased with the number of unique visitors to those pages doubling the average visits per day.
