Andy Haldane becomes President of Pro Bono Economics
Pro Bono Economics has announced the appointment of former Bank of England Chief Economist Andy Haldane as President of the organisation. Haldane takes on the newly-created role having stepped down as a PBE trustee last year to take up a six-month secondment to lead the government’s Levelling Up Taskforce. Currently, Haldane is Chief Executive of the RSA, having spent over 30 years at the Bank of England. Along with fellow economist Martin Brookes, Haldane set up PBE in 2009 in the wake of the financial crisis with the aim of harnessing the power of economics to enable the social sector to understand and improve its impact and value. Since then, the organisation has grown from two full-time staff members to a team of 20 and has supported more than 650 charities across the UK to date.
Mark Bishop joins Dynamic Earth as CEO
Mark Bishop has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer at science learning centre and charitable trust, Dynamic Earth. Bishop is joining Dynamic Earth from the National Trust for Scotland where he has been Director of Customer & Cause since 2015, with responsibility for membership, marketing and fundraising. Previously, he represented Prostate Cancer UK, Leonard Cheshire Disability and The Royal British Legion. Prior to working in the charity sector, Bishop worked in book publishing, television and internet start-ups.
World Animal Protection appoints UK Country Director & Global Fundraising and Engagement Director
World Animal Protection has appointed Tricia Croasdell as Country Director for the UK and Thomas Schultz-Jagow as Global Director of Fundraising and Engagement. Croasdell joins the London based World Animal Protection UK team on 29 August from the senior leadership team at WWF-UK where she was the Director for Public Sector Partnerships responsible for all institutional income at WWF-UK. Before this she worked in central government for over 14 years, including as Head of Campaigns between 2014-17 in the Prime Minister’s Office, 10 Downing Street. Schultz-Jagow joins the World Animal Protection International team based in London on 1 June with thirty years’ experience across the INGO sector, including the last ten years at Amnesty International, where he was Senior Director of Public Engagement and Growth.
John Hollingsworth joins Community Foundation Tyne & Wear & Northumberland
Community Foundation Tyne & Wear & Northumberland has appointed John Hollingsworth as its Chief Philanthropy Officer and deputy CEO. Hollingsworth, who was born and raised on Tyneside, has for 10 years held leading roles in charities in Detroit, Michigan. The role of Chief Philanthropy Officer is central to the Community Foundation’s ambition to grow the scale of giving addressing community needs in North East England. Since 2016, Hollingsworth has served as Development Director for Racquet Up Detroit, a community-based charity which uses the sport of squash to engage young people in education, supporting them to access college and launch a career. Previously, he was Director of Communications and Marketing at Starr Commonwealth in Michigan. Before moving to the US, he held roles with the National Trust for Scotland, NHS Scotland and Royal Bank of Scotland.
Clore Social Leadership CEO, Shaks Ghosh CBE, to retire
Shaks Ghosh CBE will be retiring in June and stepping down from her role as Chief Executive of Clore Social Leadership. Since joining in 2015, Ghosh has been on a mission to democratise social leadership and make development more accessible and affordable to those who need it most. In this time, she has led the organisation from 20 fellows a year when she started to more than 800 leaders a year now taking part in Clore Social’s programmes and courses. Prior to joining Clore Social, Ghosh had previously held CEO roles at Crisis and the Private Equity Foundation. She intends to stay close to the voluntary sector, and will continue to work on leadership in Black and Asian communities.
Henry Gregg joins Asthma + Lung UK to head External Affairs directorate
Henry Gregg joins Asthma + Lung UK with a wealth of experience working with charities and government organisations. He has previously worked at The Health Foundation, National Housing Federation and multiple local authorities in London, among others. He worked on the housing association sector’s response to the Grenfell Tower fire and was instrumental in transforming public engagement on COVID-19 in the London Borough of Newham, the local authority with the most initial deaths in the first wave of the pandemic and where the NHS COVID-19 app was trialled. He is also currently a trustee of Gingerbread, a charity that provides advice, support and community for single parents. Gregg took up his new position on 6 June.
Brain Tumour Research appoints Russell Marriott as Director of Income Generation and Development
Brain Tumour Research has appointed a new Director of Income Generation and Development. Russell Marriott, 50, joined the Milton Keynes-based organisation on 6 June. He has extensive experience in fundraising having worked in the charity sector for more than 30 years. With more than three decades of experience, he has raised more than £750m to date for organisations including The Royal Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Old Vic Theatre and BEN, the automotive industry charity. He will oversee the charity’s development and income generation strategy as it works to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million a year.
