As the 2021 BBC Proms season entered its final days, Promenaders’ Musical Charities reported fundraising progress for its two charities: Help Musicians and Young Lives vs Cancer.

A highlight of the closing stages of the season was the appearance of the Proms Festival Orchestra. On 8 September the Proms featured the first ever appearance of the ‘Proms Festival Orchestra’, performing Mahler’s 5th Symphony under Mark Wigglesworth. The BBC put this orchestra together to provide work for some London’s freelance musicians, and to highlight their plight over the last 18 months. There’s an interview with their harpist, Tamara Young, which describes the issues.

The charity’s online JustGiving collection pages were still open, enabling supporters to donate in these final days.

Donations supported Help Musicians’ work helping freelance musicians facing financial hardship due to the pandemic, and Young Lives vs Cancer’s support for children with cancer and their families.
