Big increase in Focus Ireland fundraising

Fundraising income for Focus Ireland, one of Ireland’s leading homelessness charities, jumped over 30% last year, according to their latest accounts.

Total fundraising rose from €7.4 million in 2015 to €10.7 million in 2016. Total income for Focus Ireland, which includes statutory income, also increased from €22 million to €26 million.

Public fundraising, the largest fundraising source, grew from €4.7 million to €5.4 million. Focus Ireland say they were supported by 15,000 people in this area of income generation.

‘Partnership and Philanthropy’ was up from €1.5 million to €2.2 million. Corporate and campaigns activity was supported by 782 companies and raised €700,000, while the charity’s retail operation brought in €384,000.

Capital donations grew very significantly from €221,000 to €1.9 million in 2016.

Some of the highlights of the year were a Christmas FM campaign which raised €360,000, and over €500,000 was raised through Shine a Light Night, with over 100 CEO’s, 450 employees and 54 companies sleeping out for one night in support of people who are homeless. Focus Ireland also received the first payment of a €1.2 million three-year commitment from Bord Gais Energy.

Costs associated with raising funds were €2.3 million (22% of funds raised), down from €1.8 million the year before (24% of funds raised).
