Cat sanctuary GoFundMe appeal overwhelmed by donations
A GoFundMe campaign for a cat sanctuary that was broken into and had its cats stolen raised £12,500 in one day and has reached £19,135 so far.
The appeal’s GoFundMe page was set up with a £1,000 target by Owen Williams from Ty Nant Cat Sanctuary, based in Cymmer, Port Talbot, after the sanctuary was broken into on 30th July, leaving many of its cats missing and stolen. One of the sanctuary’s rescue cats was later found dead nearby.
More than 955 people donated to the GoFundMe page in one day, raising £12,500 to support the sanctuary.
Williams wrote on the GoFundMe page:
“We are truly astounded at the amount that has been raised so far and so quickly. The donations will ensure that we can improve our sanctuary with a security system as well as restore the damaged caused to the building. We will also be able to provide greater facilities and higher standard of living for the cats that are with us now and our future residents. Your continued donations will ensure that we can provide our cats with the sanctuary they deserve.”
To date, GoFundMe fundraisers have raised over £1billion for a whole host of different causes from medical expenses, education costs, volunteer programmes and youth sports to memorials and pets.
