The new, fourth edition of the handbook provides a complete guide for charities on VAT issues explaining charity entitlements and reliefs and how to take full advantage of them.
The Complete Charity VAT Handbook covers:
o How VAT operates for both registered and unregistered charities
o When you need to charge VAT and how to decide
o Recovering the VAT on purchases and handling VAT on overhead costs
o Obtaining exemptions from paying VAT and maximising reliefs
o Dealing with international transactions and group structures
The guide is aimed at charity finance managers, accountants, book-keepers, and anyone else who deals with charity finances on a daily basis, and its advice and information will relevant for all not-for-profit organisations, including schools and social enterprises.
The handbook is co-authored by author and advisor on charity taxation and accounting, Alastair Hardman, and chartered accountant and partner at Sayer Vincent, Kate Sayer, who also explains how VAT can affect charities in a video on the DSC site:
“The purpose of our guidance is to provide information so that good decisions can be made to act both legally and in the best interests of the charity’s beneficiaries”.
The handbook is available on the DSC site at the introductory price of £40 during January at www.dsc.org.uk/vat.
