Final opportunity to respond to Charities Bill
Thursday 7 January is the last chance to comment on The Charities (Protection & Social Investment) Bill.
Those with relevant expertise and experience or a special interest in the Bill are invited to submit their views in writing to the House of Commons Public Bill Committee by 5pm latest on this date. Submissions should be emailed to: sc******@pa********.uk.
The Bill can be read here, and includes provisions intended to:
- provide stronger protection for charities in England and Wales from individuals who are unfit to be charity trustees;
- equip the Charity Commission with new or strengthened powers to tackle abuse of charity more effectively and efficiently;
- give charities a new power to make social investments; and
- require the inclusion of certain additional matters in commercial fundraising agreements.
Following its initial publication in the House of Lords on 14th September last year, the Bill went to the House of Commons on 15th September, and had its second reading on 3rd December. It was then committed to a Public Bill Committee, which is expected to finish and report to the House by the end of 7th January.
