Norwegian airline passengers donate £40k+ to Unicef in six weeks

Howard Lake | 7 August 2015 | News

Low-cost airline Norwegian’s new top-up donation function on its online booking service has raised £40,888 for children’s charity Unicef in its first six weeks.
Using technology from IT company Amadeus, passengers could top up their payment with a donation to Unicef with just one click. They could choose to donate £3, £5, £10 or £15.
Norwegian and UNICEF have had a signature partnership since 2007 with Norwegian introducing a number of initiatives to support Unicef’s work. These have included holding fundraising collections onboard, and making a corporate donation to Unicef instead of giving Christmas gifts to its employees. Last year it filled a Boeing 737 with emergency aid to the Central African Republic.

Norwegian CEO Bjørn Kjos said:

“I would like to thank all of our wonderful passengers for their generosity so far this summer. More than £40,000 donated in just 6 weeks shows that if passengers contribute even a small amount, it can make a huge difference in helping give children all over the world a better future.”

Norwegian is the world’s seventh largest low-cost airline and has had its busiest ever summer in the UK with over one million passengers booked to fly between July and September.
