British Heart Foundation shares 10 quirkiest fundraising ideas

Howard Lake | 6 August 2015 | News

The British Heart Foundation has named 10 of the quirkiest fundraising activities that its supporters have used, as it launches its fundraising guide for its new ‘Raise Funds Your Way’ campaign.
The new BHF fundraising guide is designed to inspire people to put on their own fundraising event to raise funds for the heart health charity. If people are stuck for ideas, the top 10 list should help inspire them.
The top 10 list is not just an inspiration: it’s also a way of the charity saying thank you to some of their fundraising supporters. Each one is listed with the name of the supporter who came up with the idea, and how much they raised.
The top three are:

  1. Spacehopper racing – Jenna Rogers raised over £500 with a spacehopper race in memory of her dad, Steve, who died from an undiagnosed heart condition.
  2. Wearing lobster claws for 72 hours – Jack Smith raised over £500 by wearing lobster claws on his hands for 72 hours.
  3. Giving up something different every day for three weeks – Alec Rickard gave up something different every day for three weeks to raise money for us including wearing underwear and using shampoo.

To bring the top 10 ideas to people’s attention the BHF has published them in 60 ‘secret locations’ using clean graffiti (meaning it will wash off).
