Fundraising recycling scheme now extends to air fresheners and plug-in refills

Febreze and TerraCycle are now making it possible for the first time for consumers to recycle air and home care products and packaging such as air fresheners and plug-in refills. They can also generate income for their favourite charity, school or voluntary group when they do so.
The companies’ joint Air and Home Care Brigade initiative covers a wide variety of items that previously ended up in landfill. Other plastic items that can now be recycled – and generate income for charities – include home care product trigger heads, pumps, caps and flexible home cleaning wipe packs.
Individuals and organisations need to register (at no charge) to take part in the Air and Home Care Brigade. They can then download freepost Royal Mail labels to put on a box or envelope in which they send in the plastic items that they save for recycling.

TerraCycle rewards participants with two TerraCycle points for the weight of every piece of air and home care waste sent in, with each point redeemable for a one penny contribution to the school, charity or voluntary group of the sender’s choice. The collected air and home care waste is then recycled into everyday products such as watering cans, garden benches and waste bins reducing the need to create new virgin plastic materials.

Febreze Freshness Rewards Contest

This new initiative is being promoted with the Febreze Freshness Rewards Contest, a six month contest which will offer £5,000 worth of charity prize donations.
The collection contest runs from 3 November 2014 to 30 April 2015 with the top 4 collectors winning contributions of £1,000, £750, £450, and £250 respectively for their chosen school, charity or non-profit of choice. The 5th to 10th placed collectors will receive a contribution of £100 each, and the 11th to 20th a contribution of £50.
In addition, all shipments received on the Air and Home Care Brigade during the contest dates will be entered into a sweepstake. At the end of the contest three shipments will be randomly selected as the winners of a £500 prize contribution to their chosen school, charity or voluntary group. Throughout the contest, TerraCycle will provide a regular leaderboards and Facebook updates to allow all participating collectors to keep track of their progress.
