IFC delegates hear premiere of song designed to inspire fundraisers

Delegates at this week’s International Fundraising Congress in The Netherlands were treated to a live performance of a song specially commissioned for the event’s opening ceremony.
Chris Griffin’s ‘The Moment’ was composed to bring to life the theme of this year’s Congress, which was ‘Inspire. Connect. Transform‘. He performed it live to the audience of nearly 1,000 fundraisers from dozens of countries.
It accompanied a film produced for the event which was designed to inspire fundraisers to reflect on those moments that we all experience that connect us to what we do; those moments that inspire us, move us, make us angry, fuel our spirit and enable us to inspire others.
The build-up to the premiere featured a number of quotes from fundraisers around the world, each of whom was asked to share what inspired them. The final slide featured an appropriate quote from UK Fundraising’s Howard Lake about the inspirational skills of musicians in bringing printed music to life.

Delegates at the IFC, run by The Resource Alliance, got to join in too: they were presented with cards on which they were encouraged to write what inspired them. These contributions were then put together to create an “inspiration wall” at the event.

The team behind the song and opening plenary included Derek Humphries of DTV Group and Stephen and Maria Peek from Auroris Media who created the song and a film. They specialise in events and flash mobs for work with an audience of millennials.
It was they who saw Chris Griffin singing gospel in their local church in Norfolk, Virginia. Chris is 29, works in the local shipyard and had never been out of the country before.
The Moment is now available for download on iTunes for 79p. All income from the song will be used to fund a bursary to enable someone to attend next year’s IFC who otherwise would not be able to afford it.
