New £10k grant to encourage social innovation in not-for-profit sector
Nominations are now being accepted for the inaugural UK award of The Macquarie David Clarke Social Innovation Fellowship, which aims to foster social innovation in the not-for-profit sector.
It is targeted at CEOs of registered charities. Its organisers intend “to recognise, promote and reward ideas that address social needs, and give senior executives of UK charities the opportunity to develop and enhance their own projects”. The £10,000 grant is to help fund visiting and researching best practice by community organisations around the world.
Expansion from Australia
The Fellowship was launched in 2012 for Australian charities. It is named in memory of the Group’s former chairman, David Clarke, who was one of the pioneers of corporate philanthropy in Australia.
The winner was Claire Robbs, CEO of Life Without Barriers. Her research involved visiting Ireland to investigate a youth advocate charity delivering community-based services for children involved in juvenile crime.
Building on that success, the Fellowship is this year for the first time open to not-for-profit organisations in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and New York City.
Macquarie Group Foundation Committee Chair Shemara Wikramanayake said:
“The David Clarke Fellowship honours David’s memory by paying tribute to one of the pioneers of corporate philanthropy in Australia. Understanding and developing the best ways to address disadvantage is integral to making a difference.”
