Four new trustees join IoF Board

Four new trustees have joined the Board of the Institute of Fundraising. The appointments were announced at the Institute’s AGM during its National Convention this week in London.

Danielle Atkinson of Breast Cancer Campaign and Emily Drayson, from the Researchers in Fundraising SIG, were elected to the IoF Board for the first time.

They were joined by Tanya Steele, Director of Fundraising at Save the Children, who joins the Board and becomes Chair of the Institute’s Standards Committee. David Eder, chair of the IoF Technology is joining the Board as the representative of the Institute’s Special Interest Groups.

Re-elected members

Stephen George remains as Vice Chair and Di Flatt of Epilepsy Action and Chair of IoF Yorkshire starts her second term as the Institute’s Honorary Secretary. Helen Elliot of auditors Sayer Vincent begins her third term as Treasurer.

Gordon Michie was re-elected as Scotland’s representative on the Board and Joseph Cuff was re-elected to represent Wales.

Lynda Thomas, Director of Fundraising at Macmillan, replaces Richard Taylor as the IoF representative on the Fundraising Standards Board.

New chair of the IoF

Richard Taylor, Executive Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Cancer Research UK, has been confirmed as the new chair of the Institute of Fundraising. He takes over from Mark Astarita who is standing down at the end of his three year term.

Danielle Atkinson

Danielle is Head of Public Fundraising at Breast Cancer Campaign, overseeing all direct marketing and the Wear it Pink mass participation event. With a stint as Head of Merlin Fundraising Integration at Save the Children, she was previously Head of Digital & Individual Giving at Merlin, overseeing direct marketing, community and challenge events, supporter care and all digital communications (including the website). Her background is rooted in direct and digital marketing, with her fundraising career starting ten years ago at the British Red Cross before moving to Save the Children.

Emily Drayson

Emily is an experienced fundraising researcher. Based in the Scottish Highlands, she provides freelance prospect research and analysis to charities, educational institutions and arts organisations across the UK. Emily is committed to raising the profile of research within the fundraising community and regularly volunteers her time to speak at events, including the IoF National Convention 2013. She also serves as Treasurer of the Researchers in Fundraising SIG and plays an active role in organising its annual conference.

Stephen George

Stephen George is a freelance Fundraising & Management Consultant. He was most recently Executive Director at Action on Hearing Loss and Director of Fundraising at Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre’s in the UK. From 2006 to 2010 he was Development Director for Legacy Fundraising at the NSPCC. He joined the NSPCC in 1998 as Director of Community Appeals where he was responsible for local volunteer and community fundraising, schools, and national events across the UK. In 1999 when the Full Stop appeal was launched Stephen managed the appeal in the regions, which raised £55 million.

Before joining the NSPCC, he was Head of Regional Fundraising at Unicef for three years and prior to that spent 12 years in a range of fundraising and management roles at Scope. He was previously Chair of Remember a Charity, a consortium of over 145 charities promoting gifts in wills. He is now Vice Chair of the Institute of Fundraising.

David Eder

David Eder is an experienced business consultant and database management specialist working for IRIS NFP Solutions to implement and develop CRM systems for fundraising and membership organisations across the UK. Prior to joining IRIS, David spent over 15 years working both as a fundraiser and subsequently as a Business Analyst and Data Integration Manager for Age UK / Help the Aged.

He has supported teams covering the breadth of the fundraising arena and is a firm believer in Technology providing practical, applicable solutions to the challenges faced by fundraisers ‘on the coalface’. David is Chair of the IoF Technology Special Interest Group and joins the Board as the representative of SIG chairs.

Tanya Steele

Tanya joined Save the Children in 2004. As Director of Fundraising she is responsible for significantly growing both the organisation’s income and levels of support to deliver dramatic change for children. Prior to Save the Children, Tanya spent more than a decade in the technology sector working through a range of boom and bust cycles. During this time she held a number of senior business, marketing and communications roles at BT, Siemens and Avaya.
