People’s Postcode Lottery increases amount donated to charities
The People’s Postcode Lottery is to donate an extra £2 million this year to the 40 charities that the lottery supports. Each charity will receive an extra £50,000 during that period.
Launched in January 2008, the People’s Postcode Lottery has now raised over £43.3 million for charities since then. 50p from the sale of every £2 ticket goes to charity.
Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said:
“As the number of players continues to increase the amounts awarded to charities will only continue to rise. On behalf of all the charities that are receiving this funding I would like to say a massive thank you to all players for the unwavering support”.
Beneficiaries of the additional donations include Maggie’s, Canal & River Trust, and PDSA. The latter was announced only last month as a new charity to be supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery.
In January 2014 People’s Postcode Lottery and their sister lotteries in the Netherlands and Sweden were collectively announced as the second largest charitable private donor in the world, according to business newspaper City AM, with over £441 million being awarded to charities in 2013.
