International charities offered free SIM cards

Howard Lake | 30 June 2014 | News

International mobile communications specialist WorldSIM is giving away up to 3 million SIM cards to charities around the world to help them save on telecomms costs. The offer is specifically for charities that work internationally and whose staff travel overseas.
WorldSIM travel SIM cards will enable international charity workers to benefit from “receive free incoming calls in over 90 countries, make cheap calls while they are travelling and be contactable on a UK or US number while they are away” and to “use data at a fraction of the cost”. The company is giving up to three SIM cards to each charity that applies.
Arif Reza, WorldSIM’s CEO, explained why the company was making the donations. He said:

“By putting an end to extortionate roaming bills charities will be able to free up more funds generated from donations and use them to benefit the needy and less fortunate.”

The company will pay for postage of the donated SIMs to charities based in the UK, but charities elsewhere will have to pay for the postage and shipping.
The SIM cards do not have an expiry date, do not require an initial top-up, and have no monthly top-up requirements, according to WorldSIM. Future top-ups can be paid for by PayPal or at many newsagents.
The company says that it is not making the donations to build up a marketing list of charities, since their main focus is on travellers and international business callers from the UK.
The full terms and conditions for the charity offer are published on WorldSIM’s site.
