New funding strategy from Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland
Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland has announced a three year strategy for supporting people and communities in Scotland. The new approach follows consultation with the voluntary sector.
Community empowerment
The Foundation is building on its reputation for progressive grant-making – it was one of the first funders to develop a separate capacity building programme – by setting up a new programme which targets areas and communities in need which have neither sought or received funding.
This will involve “co-production with local communities”: there will be no application forms, deadlines or funding criteria.
Mary Craig OBE, Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland, explained:
“We’re doing this because some communities access little or none of the funds available through traditional grant-making and we believe a new approach is needed to fill this gap. By building on local assets to develop belief in the collective power to shape surroundings and effect change, local people will be able to bring about the development they want at their own pace. “

She described this approach as “challenging ourselves to look at ways to deliver an even better service for Scotland’s charities at a time when many are struggling to raise the funds they need”.
The details of this new initiative will be finalised and announced later this year.
Sharing grantmaking advice
The Foundation will establish a social enterprise which will provide advice on grantmaking to other fundraisers and assist them with their development work. Any income generated through this will be used to support the Foundation’s work with grassroots charities.
Existing funding to continue
Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland’s existing funding programmes will continue unchanged. The Foundation’s two main programmes are:
• The Henry Duncan Awards which support grassroots charities.
• The Partnership Drugs Initiative, run in partnership with the Scottish Government, which supports children and young people affected by substance misuse.
It also administers the Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme, having successfully tendered for this work in 2013.
