Poundland has raised more than £1 million for Macmillan Cancer Support, its charity partner. Europe’s largest single price value retailer first started supporting the charity in 2009.
The company, which recently floated on the stock market, had aimed to raise £1 million. In total it raised £1,035,000.
Fundraising activities by Poundland staff included a 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge, a London to Paris cycle ride, dress-down days and raffles. Some staff took part in the London Marathon.
The sale of charity products by customers also contributed to the total.

The successful partnership has been celebrated with a road show which visited the most successful fundraising stores around the country. The top performing store was in Sunderland. A giant Macmillan collecting tin and oversized £1 coins helped illustrate the size of the fundraising total.
Jim McCarthy, Chief Executive at Poundland said:
“Our customers and colleagues have voted to continue to support Macmillan on a continuous basis since 2009, and we have seen some fantastic members of our team going above and beyond for a charity that has touched many of us personally”.
