Vertical Rush 2014 raises £500k

Howard Lake | 25 March 2014 | News

Shelter’s Vertical Rush 2014, its fundraising run up Tower 42 in the City of London, has raised £500,000. Nearly 1,300 tower runners took part on 4th March in what Shelter describes as “the tallest and toughest tower-running event in the UK”.
Teams from City firms Fujitsu and Berkeley Group took part, together with celebrities including Duncan James and Lee Ryan from Blue.
The event involves running up 920 steps, 590 feet.
This is the sixth year that Vertical Rush has taken place. In its first five years the event raised £1.2 million.

New online registration system

This year digital fundraising specialists Chameleon supported the event with an online registration system designed to improve management of those signing up. Both individuals and teams of five run up the tower in a series of one-hour ‘waves’. As the event grew, the registration, payment and time management activities had become difficult for Shelter to administer.

Working with Shelter’s events, fundraising and digital teams, Chameleon connected the charity’s existing donation platform, powered by iRaiser, with a new custom-built web application to handle registrations.
Chameleon delivered the service within four weeks, in time for the October 2013 registration opening date.

Lizzi Wagner, Community & Events Manager at Shelter commented:

“The new registration system has significantly improved how we manage registrations internally, freeing up time that used to be spent on admin, that now can be spent on supporting our incredible runners. Most importantly it’s enabled us to improve the experience of our event supporters by making sure it is quick and easy to sign up for Vertical Rush”.

Registration for Vertical Rush 2015 is already open.
