Factary reports on 30 of UK’s newest philanthropists
Prospect research specialists Factary have published a report featuring 30 of the UK’s newest philanthropists.
The Foundations of Wealth report details 30 people who have founded grantmaking trusts in 2013. It analyses their wealth, philanthropic interests and biographical information. Together they have wealth of £5.7 billion.
According to Factary, all but one of the trusts listed have never appeared in other directories of grantmaking trusts.
Who are the new philanthropists?
Although we can’t reveal the philanthropists’ names, Factary did share some of their details with UK Fundraising. They include:
- The founder of the world’s largest independent bookmakers, who has made a six-figure donation to the Lord Mayor of Manchester’s Charity, We Love MCR Charity.
- A hedge fund manager who is a long-term supporter of the arts, with past donations to the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Serpentine Gallery and Donmar Warehouse Theatre.
- A corporate banker who is a Trustee of the British Museum and former Trustee of the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
- The former Chief Executive of a leading mining conglomerate who is Chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council and a Trustee of The Foundation and Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
- A French investment banker who is a patron of the arts and on the Council of the Southbank Centre.
- A leading Swiss art dealer who has recently endowed a teaching and research post at the Courtauld Institute of Art and has donated to many arts venues across the country.
- The co-founder of a leading smoothie brand who has philanthropic interests in the arts, environment and international development.
- A Director of a leading London property company who is Chairman of Studio Arts Centers International Florence and a Trustee of The Jewish Council for Racial Equality.
