How 100 years of philanthropy has changed the world

Howard Lake | 8 December 2013 | Blogs

The Rockefeller Foundation has created a short film demonstrating how American philanthropy has changed the world in the past 100 years.
In particular, the film asked people what philanthropy helped achieve in terms of change that they never expected to see in their lifetime.

“I never thought a group of educational revolutionaries would be leading big school systems”.
“I never thought I’d live in democracy”.
“I never thought there’d be one shot that could give children five vaccines and a chance for the future”.
“I never thought black children could look up to a president and think that’s going to be me someday”.
“I never thought we’d be playing soccer here, where landmines used to be”.
“I’m alive today because my son called the paramedics with three memorable numbers”.
“I will be the last woman in my family to have breast cancer”.
“Because of the International Criminal Court, war crimes are being prosecuted”.
“I never thought I’d be teaching kids science from outer space”.
I never thought that Bill Gates would move from information technology to toilet technology that saves lives”.
