Housing development sales to raise funds for charity

Howard Lake | 26 April 2013 | News

The Harley Staples Cancer Trust, which last year won a £250,000 house in a national charity competition run by housebuilder Persimmon Homes, is to benefit further from the company.

Persimmon Homes North Midlands is to name a new housing development after eight year old Harley, who died in November 2009 aged eight from a rare form of leukaemia. The company was impressed by the work of the charity set up in his memory by his mother and father, Katherine and Jamie Staples.

They aimed to set up a holiday home for other young cancer sufferers. Winning the house made that possible.

The new residential development in Bagworth will be named Harley's Place.

In addition, Persimmon Homes North Midlands will donate £100 to the charity for every home sold at on the 56-home Harley's Place.

Katherine Staples said: "Persimmon Homes has shown us just how hard they work to help the local communities in which they build.  Without their 40th Birthday competition, we wouldn’t have experienced such exposure, which is a real coup as we strive to spread our charity message as far and wide as possible."

Sherrie Hankin, head of sales for Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “We couldn’t think of a more fitting tribute than to name our newest development Harley’s Place.  As our nominated charity for 2013, this is just the start of our continued efforts to support The Harley Staples Cancer Trust.”
