Morrisons raises £5 million for Save the Children

Supermarket Morrisons has now raised £5 million for Save the Children since 2011. This is Morrisons’ most successful charity partnership, and makes it the biggest funder of the charity’s UK work.

This money funds the charity’s Families and Schools Together (FAST) programme. FAST brings families, schools and communities together to build stronger bonds and make sure that children get the support they need to do well at school.

The company now plans to extend the partnership. This year it will help Save the Children to reach disadvantaged children across the UK by funding the charity’s Eat Sleep Learn Play! programme.

Morrisons staff and customers have raised funds in many different ways, from bake sales and fitness challenges, to bucket collections and product donations.

One of the most successful initiatives was the support shown for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day on 14 December 2012. All 132,000 Morrisons employees were encouraged to support this campaign and over £100,000 was raised.

The partnership has also raised funds for Save the Children’s Emergency Appeals, including appeals for the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami, the food crises in East and West Africa, and most recently the Syria Crisis Appeal.
