One of London's newest visitor attractions has chosen Booktrust as its first charity of the year. The View from The Shard will be supporting the charity's Children's Reading Fund.

The Shard is currently the tallest building in Western Europe, and opens to the public next month. The Children's Reading Fund was launched with a reception in the viewing galleries at the top of the Shard.

Waterstones and James Patterson in partnership with Random House are also corporate partners of the Children's Reading Fund.

The campaign aims to raise £2 million over three years to support disadvantaged children in the UK. The funds will be used to inspire disadvantaged and vulnerable children aged between 4 and 11 to engage more with reading and writing "and thus to change their own story".
