What’s in a name? One Direction knows

One Direction

Following the interesting email from Neelam Makhijani of the Resource Alliance to their contact list complaining that the Swiss International Fundraising Congress (SIFC) is being confused with their International Fundraising Congress (IFC) the International Fundraising Consultancy (IFC) has urged them to stop using its initials in their marketing as they changed their name from the International Fundraising Workshop (IFW) years after the International Fundraising Consultancy began trading as IFC. We would also suggest they unify their brand by calling their event the Resource Alliance Congress.
See www.sifc.ch
But is there really any confusion? Feeling rather like Steve Jobs confronted by IBM we asked people if they were confused. So far no one has expressed any problem.
I would be very interested to hear from any blog readers if they had muddled up the two names.
An awesome IFC competition!
There is a rare SIFC badge for:
1. The best new name for the Swiss Congress.
2. The silliest new name for the Swiss Congress.
3. The best new name for the Resource Alliance Congress.
Who is One Direction?
One Direction are being sued over trademark infringement by a California band with the same name. Lawyers want an injunction to stop the UK boy band using the name, as well as compensation and a share of their profits. Legal papers filed at California Central District Court, claim Syco and Sony Music realised the duplication but ignored the American band’s rights.
The California band are asking for more than $1m (£630,000) in damages and also say they’re entitled to three times the profits made by the UK group.
The UK five-piece, who were put together on The X Factor in 2010, recently made chart history in America. Their album Up All Night went straight in at number one on the Billboard chart last month.
