Thomas Hughes-Hallett to retire as Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care

Thomas Hughes-Hallett is to retire this year as Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care after 12 years at the charity. A successor is to be sought and Hughes-Hallett plans to hand over by the end of 2012.
He will be devote his time to encouraging more people to give and people to give more. Last year he chaired the Philanthropy Review, an independent review of philanthropy that took “a fresh look at supporting society through better giving”.
John Varley, Chair of Marie Curie Cancer Care, praised the developments that Hughes-Hallett had helped Marie Curie Cancer Care achieve.
“Now” he said, “around 10,000 more patients and families benefit from its nursing care at home every year than in 2000, when he joined the charity. The Delivering Choice Programme, launched in 2004, has helped transform the face of end of life care in Britain.”
Varley added that Hughes-Hallett had agreed to continue to serve Marie Curie Cancer Care on a voluntary basis, and that the charity’s Council would recommend to the Annual General Meeting in September that he be appointed Vice President. “In this role,” he said, “he will provide particular support to the Charity in strengthening further our links with key stakeholders, including major donors, health services and government.”
