Snoball encourages social giving based on an event or action

Howard Lake | 11 January 2012 | News

Snoball is a new tool “designed to give you more control of how, who and when you donate to charities”. It aims to build on your interests and activities, give you a reason to give, and to share that reason with other friends and contacts. Hence the potential snowball effect of Snoball.
After setting up an account, Snoball users set up a rule or trigger. This can be a date, like the first day of the month, or an event, like visiting a coffee shop. They then choose how much they will donate each time. Linking in with Facebook they can then be prompted to give.
They can of course then share their snoball with friends via Facebook, Twitter and FourSquare. These friends can then adopt that rule so that they make the same donation as their friend.
Snoball say: “We will take charitable giving to a new level as we combine social dynamics and game play into a fun and interactive way.”
Snoball offers 1.6 million US nonprofits to donate to, and takes a 5% charge to cover admin and credit card charges.
