Home-collection charity clothes recycling scheme to launch next month

From next month supporters will be able to donate their unwanted clothes to any UK charity and have the items collected from their home.
Click Collection will offer a complete service, collecting clothes free from a supporter’s home by appointment, then cleaning and selling them online.
Click Collection Operations Director, David Alder, says that the new service should prove useful in particular to charities that do not have a network of shops. In addition, the fact that it can raise funds for any registered charity will enable donors for the first time to donate their clothing to the cause that matters most to them, rather than being restricted to those with charity shops nearby.
He commented: “A lot of used clothes donated to charities are of a high quality. Click Collection will showcase fashion items in our purpose-built online shop, with coverage throughout the UK. This will attract the best possible selling price, the sale proceeds less costs being distributed to participating charities.”
He explained that Click Collection will also recycle items not good enough for resale and distribute the sale proceeds to
the charities. “Nothing goes to landfill” he claimed.
He does not see Click Collection competing with High Street charity shops. “Our objective” he said, “is to increase collections and sell to an audience not involved right now. However our cooperative, online approach could well be more cost-effective than some ‘bricks-and-mortar’ shops, and provide charities with a better return. That is certainly our aim.”
