Packyourbags Holidays runs Facebook 'like' donation campaign for Plan International

Howard Lake | 31 October 2011 | News

Packyourbags Holidays is trying to raise money for Plan International’s Girl’s Fund using its recently launched Facebook page. It will give 10p for every ‘like’ of its Facebook page over the next three months.
Lat year the company’s Managing Director Mark Kempster and three other staff climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and raised £35,000 for Plan’s ‘Because I am a Girl’ campaign.
Plan is using its Because I Am A Girl Facebook page, with its 340,000+ fans, to publicise the fundraising effort by Packyourbags.
This is one of two methods of using Facebook ‘likes’ to generate funds. The other approach focuses on building up the charity’s Facebook page subscribers rather than the donor’s, with a corporate or individual donor pledging to give a certain amount for each ‘like’ up to a maximum. This has been adopted by Amnesty International USA and Free The Children’s We Day among others.
