Volunteer-run third sector communications agency Bright One has created BrightWorks, a micro-volunteering app that allows charities and voluntary organistaions to get tasks completed for free online by a global volunteer community
BrightWorks is designed to enable voluntary organisations to outsource a range of tasks from a range of disciplines, such as PR, marketing, social media, design, and copywriting, all at no charge.
Volunteers can use the app to locate causes that matter to them that need their skills. They should also benefit as they work collaboratively on tasks with other volunteers.
The BrightWorks app will track and share data on participation rates, causes supported, volunteer hours, active volunteers, location and more, to demonstrate its social impact.
Ben Matthews, Founder of Bright One, explained that the app was one way of extending the agency’s impact. He said: “We have achieved great success in the past two years, all through the passion and determination of our volunteers. But teams of volunteers can only achieve so much, and demand overwhelmingly outstrips supply when it comes to supporting the amount of charities that approach us on a daily basis for support. Bright Works will help us to scale the amount of support we can give.”
The site is currently in ‘beta’ phase and the projects featured will be from Bright One’s current client portfolio. Plans for development of the platform are in place, which will see BrightWorks opened up to charities, non-profits and social enterprises across the world.
Matthews added: “The idea at the heart of BrightWorks that it will be a self-organising, ‘peopled’ service, breaking down projects to ensure that many hands make light work, in a visually appealing format so that volunteers feel comfortable in working in the environment.”
The app has been developed by Dharmafly, who specialise in social design for the development of web applications.
