Pub chain launches charitable trust
New pub chain Clover Taverns has formed a charitable trust to support local causes near each of its 10 pubs across the UK.
Denise Marchant, landlady of the Woodside pub in Crewe, is the chairwomen of the Clover Taverns Charitable Trust, which will start accepting nominations for funding from June 2011. Marchant has spent the past eight years raising more than £30,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, after one of the pub’s regulars died from the disease aged just 50.
“We want to provide a support arm for local causes that aren’t sure where to turn”, said Marchant.
Andy Wilkinson, managing director of Clover Taverns and Trust director, added: “Pubs have long been at the heart of community life so it’s exciting to start looking at giving something back. This is the foundations of the Trust and we hope, with Denise’s ./guidance, that each of our pubs’ local communities benefit as a result.”
All applications should be sent to Denise Marchant, Clover Taverns Charitable Trust c/o Powell Communication Consultants, 11 Brewery Yard, The Deva Centre, Manchester, M3 7BB.
