Tesco to run TV ad for Cancer Research UK's Race for Life

Howard Lake | 16 February 2011 | News

Having sponsored Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life for 10 years, supermarket Tesco is airing a TV advert to encourage one million women to take part in this year’s Race for Life. The national television advertising campaign stars Fay Ripley, Mark Addy and Olympic athlete Paula Radcliffe.
Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Executive Director, Corporate and Legal Affairs from Tesco, said: “An incredible 5.4 million women have taken part in Race for Life to date, helping many to recover from cancer as a result of the £362 million we have raised together for Cancer Research UK. This year, by working in partnership with Cancer Research UK, we’re aiming to reach more women than ever before. We hope the advert will help us to recruit a million women and raise £80 million to fund life saving work.”
Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event series where women walk, jog or run 5km. Tesco hopes that more than 20,000 Tesco staff will be among the women taking part in one of over 300 events this summer around the UK.
The advert airs for the first time on the 21 February. It will be supported by print and digital campaigns and through Tesco Clubcard, Tesco.com, Tesco Magazine and in-store point-of-sale.
