Charity invites disabled people to sign up for accessible triathlon

Howard Lake | 14 February 2011 | News

Tri Together is a short distance event featuring swimming, cycling and running, which allows people to participate as individuals or as a team of two or three people.
Leonard Cheshire Disability has launched Tri Together, a triathlon designed so that disabled and non-disabled people can take part side by side and raise funds for the charity.
It takes place on Sunday 11 September 2011 at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre in South London. It comprises a 400m pool swim, 15km cycle ride, and 5km run.

Sarah Ball, National Events Manager at Leonard Cheshire Disability said: “We believe that everybody should be given the chance to take part in sports if they want to, whatever their abilities. Leonard Cheshire Disability is holding an event that will encourage just that. You don’t have to be an elite athlete to take part in Tri Together, an event which focuses on ability, not disability”.
The events team at Leonard Cheshire Disability will be supporting participants throughout the training process with fitness and training plans, fundraising support and advice, training and taster sessions for disabled people to try out different equipment such as hand cycles, tandem bicycles and tricycles, and post event professional sports massage and complementary food and drink.
A registration fee of £30 and minimum sponsorship apply to the event and participants must be a minimum age of 17 on the date of the event.
