Kage reports fundraising vacancies up 11% in 2010

Fundraising recruitment specialist the Kage Partnership reports that it handled an 11% increase in the number of fundraising vacancies in 2010 compared to 2009, and that average salaries across all levels rose by 2%.
The trends were published in the agency’s annual fundraising salary survey. This year’s survey has been compiled from data on 370 fundraising vacancies from over 120 charities, registered in the period January to December 2010.
Not all fundraising disciplines enjoyed salary increases: there were average decreases for major donor officers and community/regional managers. Similarly, corporate fundraising officer salaries remained static for the third year running.
The larger salary increases mostly occurred in Manager categories, with higher increases of 4-5% appearing in corporate, trust and direct marketing roles.
Kage reports that, while in 2009 job seekers outnumbered the vacancies registered, in 2010 the balance was more even. However, the agency received fewer junior vacancies, and noticed a trend for more unpaid internship positions.
The most difficult position to fill during the year was that of major donor fundraiser, even though the number of roles advertised increased compared to 2009.
Kage reported that candidates on average took longer to find jobs in 2010 than they did in 2009, with employers clearly willing to wait for the right candidate.
