THE SUBWAYS CHARITY PLEDGE FOR NEW ALBUM
UK rock band the Subways are offering fans an innovative new way to get involved in the release of their new album and raise money for the band’s favourite charities, CLIC Sargent and The National Autistic Society, at the same time.
Supporters of the three-piece group will be able to follow the making of their new album, from the first day of recording through to its release in spring 2011, by pledging for unique Subways items and experiences. The band has partnered with Pledge Music, the direct-to-fan platform, to create a host of enticing Subways goodies for followers. Items on offer include a handwritten lyric sheet for £25, the chance to spend the day at the band’s rehearsal studio for £100 and an intimate acoustic house concert by the band for £1,500. Pledgers will also receive exclusive online access to regular video updates and messages from the band.
The Subways are donating 10% of the cost of each item or experience to CLIC Sargent, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people with cancer, and The National Autistic Society. The band regularly invites young people supported by CLIC Sargent to watch performances from side of stage and meet them after their shows.
Phil Day, Youth Music Coordinator at CLIC Sargent says: “We’re delighted that the Subways have chosen CLIC Sargent to benefit from this new and exciting initiative to engage fans in the band’s music. Many of the young people we work with are keen music fans and it’s great to have the support of a top UK band.
Lack of funds means that CLIC Sargent can only help two out of three children and young people with cancer so support from the Subways and their fans is really important to help the charity reduce the impact of childhood cancer.”
To find out more about the items and experiences on offer from the Subways visit www.pledgemusic.com or the band’s website www.thesubways.net.

About childhood cancer
Every day 10 children and young people are told they have cancer, and diagnosis usually comes as a shock. Treatment normally starts straightaway and can last up to three years. Although survival rates are over 70%, cancer remains the single largest cause of death from disease in children in the UK.
About CLIC Sargent
CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people. It provides clinical, practical and emotional support for young cancer patients and their families, from diagnosis onwards. For more information visit www.clicsargent.org.uk
Note to sub editors
Please note that the name ‘CLIC Sargent’ should not be abbreviated to CLIC, and that the word ‘CLIC’ should always appear in capitals, as above.
