Children’s charity the NSPCC has selected mobile payment specialist paythru to handle donations from its mobile fundraising activities.
The company has developed a mobile site through which secure donations can be made to the charity, whether one-off gifts or regular monthly gifts via Direct Debit. Supporters are also given the opportunity to make a Gift Aid declaration at the time of making the donation, unlike premium SMS that requires supporters to make an additional registration.
Donations can be made using any credit or debit card and there are no limits to the amount that can be donated.
The paythru system is Level 1 PCI DSS compliant so is able to store charity supporters’ details, meaning that future donations can be made without the need to re-enter card details. Supporters can access their account using a PIN and password.
According to an Ofcom Market Survey of August 2010, 26.5% of the UK population owns a smart phone and 13.5 million people are using them to access the internet.
Lisa Williams at NSPCC, said: “We have a highly structured process for collecting the donations that are so critical for the work that the NSPCC does and the ubiquity of the mobile phone means that it makes a great fundraising channel for us. paythru’s system makes donating easy and secure for supporters and means that we can give them the choice to donate when and where it is convenient for them.”
