DEC Pakistan floods appeal raises £2.5m in 12 hours

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Pakistan Floods Appeal has raised £2.5 million within 12 hours of the first television appeals being broadcast on the evening of 5 August.
The ITV and BBC TV appeals were presented by actor Art Malik, who was born in Pakistan, and John McCarthy, journalist and former British hostage in Lebanon.
The donations will help the DEC’s 13 Member Agencies provide emergency aid in Pakistan where 4.5 million people have already been affected and flood waters are still spreading. So far DEC members and their partners have helped 300,000 survivors, providing emergency medical care, clean water, food and shelter.
Brendan Gormley, Chief Executive of the DEC said: “Once again, the generosity of the British public has been fantastic. This money will have a significant affect where it is needed most”.
Donations to the DEC Pakistan appeal can be made via the 24 hour hotline on 0370 60 60 900, online, by mobile (by donating £5 by texting the word GIVE to 70707), over the counter at any post office or high street bank, or by sending a cheque.
