Celebrate campaigners with Sheila McKechnie Foundation Awards

The Sheila McKechnie Foundation has opened applications for its 2010 Campaigner Awards, which are designed to celebrate and support emerging campaigners and activists both across the UK and abroad.
Linda Butcher, Chief Executive of The Sheila McKechnie Foundation, said: “Campaigning is not only about the big issues, such as climate change and developing world debt. SMK recognises the endeavours of individuals who are campaigning on very local issues, such as healthy school meals and community safety.”
Laura Ferguson, who won the Transport Award last year for her campaign to encourage more people in her local community in Wendover to cycle, said: “It is often local issues that affect us most directly, so community-based campaigning is vitally important. Working on local issues is sometimes a lonely pursuit and the SMK award gave me support that I would not otherwise have got. I will always be humbled by the amazing campaigners I’ve been surrounded by since winning an SMK award”.
Applications must be received before 12pm on 28 June 2010.
