Comedian Arthur Smith has filmed an appeal for disability charity Vitalise which will be broadcast as the BBC Lifeline Appeal later this week.

The recording was made at the charity’s accessible centres in March. The appeal features Arthur Smith, who is Vice President of Vitalise, talking to a number of the disabled people and carers taking much-needed breaks at the charity’s Netley Waterside House in Southampton about the challenges of living with a disability and the difference Vitalise makes to their lives.

The appeal then follows a group of children with disabilities who are pupils from Doubletrees School in St Blazey, as they enjoy a day of accessible canoeing, archery and abseiling at Vitalise Churchtown, the charity’s adventure and activity centre in Cornwall.

Colin Brook, Vitalise Senior Communications Officer, said: “We were thrilled to have Arthur Smith and the BBC here, talking to our disabled guests and carers and filming the variety of activities and excursions we provide for them. Arthur really got the guests to open up about their lives and how they benefit from regular Vitalise breaks. We all had a fantastic time filming for the programme and everyone who took part is excited at the prospect of being on TV”.

Vitalise’s BBC Lifeline Appeal will be broadcast on Sunday 18 April at 17.00 on BBC 1 and on Wednesday 21 April at 13.30 on BBC 2. It will be available on BBC iPlayer and YouTube from 18 April.
