A CHARITY based in Buckinghamshire dedicated to creating magical gardens at children’s hospices across the UK is this month (February, 2010) urging people and organisations to donate technical equipment to its cause.
Greenfingers, which was set up by members of the gardening industry and has its office in Beaconsfield, is asking for donations of computers, screens and software to help the charity with its administration and marketing work.
Deborah Skillicorn, Greenfingers’ Joint Chief Executive, said: “We have recently moved offices and are in the process of taking on some new volunteers to help out with administration and marketing.
“In order for us to work to our full potential we require some computer equipment and would like to hear from individuals or businesses that may be able to donate some.”
Greenfingers creates and improves a variety of different gardens at children’s hospices across the UK. The gardens are designed to help the children and their families and friends during a very emotional and difficult time.
To date the charity has worked with a number of hospices including Eden House Children’s Hospice in Carlisle, Richard House Children’s Hospice in East London, Naomi House Children’s Hospice in Winchester and Little Bridge House in Barnstaple to name but a few.
Deborah continued: “We require three computers, which are no more than four-years-old, complete with mouses, keyboards and displays, as well as software such as Windows XP and Microsoft Office. Anyone able to donate equipment to Greenfingers can get in touch via in**@gr*****************.uk or by calling the office on 01494 674749.”
Greenfingers was launched in November 1998 by garden writer and broadcaster, Richard Jackson and a team of volunteers drawn from all sectors of the gardening industry.
Growers, plant breeders, retailers, manufacturers and a host of gardening journalists and celebrities have willingly contributed materials, time and expertise to create gardens at children’s hospices around the UK.
