DOES YOUR SQUAD HAVE THE SKILLS TO BEAT A TEAM OF PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL LEGENDS AND TAKE HOME THE GLORY?
UK healthcare charity Sue Ryder Care is organising a five a side tournament with a difference. The winning side will take on a team of Premiership football legends in the final showdown for the Sue Ryder Care International Cup.
32 teams will take part in the play-offs at the state-of-the-art David Beckham Academy in Greenwich on Wednesday the 2nd of December. An exclusive after party will give team members the chance to rub shoulders with masters of the beautiful game.

Premiership legends present last year included Ray Parlour (Arsenal), Kerry Dixon (Chelsea) and Paul Parker (Manchester United). The 2008 tournament was won by the Polish City Club team. Captain Bart Dujczynski, said, “What a night, it could not have gone better. We won the whole thing and were undefeated, winning all games even against the Premiership All Stars!”
Places in this years’ tournament costs £1,200 which includes participation for eight players, team photos and entrance to the after party. The event will raise vital funds for Sue Ryder Care’s work across Europe and Africa.
Football legend, 1966 World Cup Winner Martin Peters MBE, who hosted last year’s event, said, “I am delighted to be supporting the Sue Ryder International Cup – it was a great evening last year, with all the excitement and drama of a premiership final. As well as having the opportunity to play against legends of the great game, football fans helped raise vital funds for a very worthwhile cause.”
Malawian-born Tamika Mkandawire, professional footballer and Sue Ryder Care Ambassador comments: “I am proud to be an Ambassador for Sue Ryder Care’s international work. Football is a uniting force throughout the world and the Sue Ryder International Cup is a great way to support this cause. I’m delighted to be involved.”
“This year it is anyone’s tournament!” says Ben Simms, Head of International at Sue Ryder Care. “£1,200 is a very realistic fundraising target for those wishing to take part – a sum that could be raised in a day spent collecting money at any London station. So, if you’ve got the motivation to play at the David Beckham Academy and help our international care programmes at the same time, make contact!”
Last year £20,000 was raised for the work of Sue Ryder charities overseas – a record the organisers are hoping to smash this year. An after party with raffle, silent auction and entertainment will continue the fun after the match for players and supporters.
