BBC Two tomorrow airs the first in a three-part TV series in which retail expert Mary Portas attempts to help several charity shops improve their results.

Portas has already appeared in two series of ‘Mary, Queen Of Shops’ in which she helped to turn around the fortunes of struggling independent fashion boutiques across the UK.

In the charity shop series she will be working with managers and volunteers at shops run by MIND, Barnardo’s, The North London Hospice and Save the Children.

Portas says of charity shops: “They’re where clothes and bric-a-brac go to die and I’m making it my mission to breathe new life into them and to make them a shopping destination.”

As well as focusing on how the shops themselves operate, she is also keen to tackle the public’s perception of charity shops and influence how consumers make their purchasing decisions.
